How to Setup Catfishing Limb Lines

When it comes to bait, you can use anything that you want to. It’s suggested that you use different bait on the hooks for variety or alternate each one. This way, if they are not attracted to one offering they most likely will be interested in one of the others.

It’s important that you check your line often to prevent them from getting tangled up and to remove any catfish that you have caught. You will also need to make sure you still have bait on the hooks and keep it fresh for the best results. Some areas have set time limits for how long you can leave a limb line unattended.

Basic Tips

Using circle hooks is always a great option when using a limb line but regardless of which type of hook you use, make sure it’s in good shape and very sharp. It’s also a good idea to check your line for worn places to make sure it’s in good condition. It would be a shame if you landed a big one and the line broke because it was weak in a couple places.

When you are finished fishing, make sure you take down the limb lines. After all, it’s the respectable thing to do. It’s also a good idea to tag your limb line with your name. This is especially important if there are other anglers in the same area using this method to fish.

This way there will be no mistaking which one belongs to you and it would be appreciated by the game wardens in the area as well.

Never abuse this method of fishing. It’s a great way to bring home a nice catch but not something that you want to do every time you go out. If you are planning a big fish fry or simply want to haul in a nice catch from time to time it’s one of the best ways to do so. Have fun and enjoy catching catfish with a limb line.
