Must Have Catfishing Equipment

When a fish is hooked, it reels it in for you. You do not need this, but it is something that you can think about of you want to handle more than one pole. The trotline is another rig you can use, but for beginners, this is not recommended. The best rig for fishing at night is one that is going to get the bait close to the bottom of the water. Always keep this in mind when fishing for catfish.

More Than Need Is Technique

Catfish fishing is also about the technique that you use. You can use the best equipment and bait, but still never catch a fish. You should always know how to present the bait to the fish. If you would leave the bait lie on the bottom of the water, you probably will not have a bite. If you suspend the bait a few inches off the bottom, you will have success. You can cast or use a vertical drop. You should always evaluate your technique if you are not catching any catfish.

Sit Back and Relax

When you are out catfishing, remember that the best fishing is not going to happen as soon as you drop the bait in the water. Sit back and relax while the catfish look for the bait. If you are using stink bait, it should not take long, but give it time. The cats can smell a great distance away and will come looking. Even the best angler can tell you that patients are a virtue when fishing for any fish. Just because you want one does not mean it will happen right away.

You have to use some good equipment to bring the fish in, but you do not need to spend a large amount of money for it either. You should however, keep your hooks sharp and your bait smelly if you want to have the thrill of catching the fighting catfish. Once you have a bite, you are going to have a fight. Since you are all rested up, you should have no problem keeping up with the fish and bringing it into the boat or onto shore.
