Catfish Equipment For A Great Catch

Keep your freshwater and saltwater tackle separated. If your tackle box is not large enough to do this, you can always use two different ones to keep them separate. Keep a good variety of tackle on hand. You should have different styles that range in a variety of sizes and colors. There will be many times when you’ll need to try different things until you find the gear that works the best. Keep your hooks sharp and ready to use at all times. Discard any old and worn out gear and always keep extra with you at all times, especially fishing line.

Catfish Rods and Reels
The type of rod and reel you have will make a difference in the amount of success you enjoy as well. You do need to invest in a good quality, heavy duty fishing rod that can handle the strain the catfish will produce. The rod should be flexible so it will bend but you don’t want it to be too flexible or you won’t be able to reel in the fish. Usually a moderate to fast action rod is recommended for catfishing. Choose your reel to match your rod and the type of fishing you plan to do. The fishing line should also match the rest of your equipment and be heavy enough to withstand the struggle you’ll be faced with.

Catfish fishing has always been popular but more anglers seem to be taking an interest in this species all the time. Not only can they grow to some astounding sizes, but they taste great and make fishing exciting, which is a good combination. You can use most any type of bait to get the attention of the catfish because this bottom feeder will strike at just about anything.

Find out where they can be found, which foods they’re most attracted to and about how big you can expect them to grow. The more information that you have the easier it will be to choose your rod, reel and tackle. Once you get everything organized, you’re ready to hit the water and try out your new catfish equipment.
