Catfish will take your bait in the winter but they do move a lot slower than when the water is warm so you must take this into consideration. Use a fishing method that allows you to drop your bait to the bottom of the water. Every so often, shake the line to get the attention of the catfish then let it settle back down to the bottom.

The best bait to use is always stink bait because the catfish will be drawn to the smell. However, cut bait, insect larvae and minnows are great choices as well. To catch catfish you will need to have patients anytime but you will need a little more in the winter because they do move so slow in the cold water.

Whether you are fishing in a lake, river, pond or the ocean it is always a good idea to learn about the area. Take the time to get familiar with the body of water that you are fishing in because it can make a big difference in how much success you will have. It will also help to ensure you stay as safe as possible while out on the water, which is your number one concern.
