Big Cats

hey i just need to know what to use when tryin to fish for big catfish and how to seat my line up for them

If you are angling for big Catfish then your best choice for bait is a large fish. It can be a bluegill, large sucker, green sunfish or any appropriate sized fish for the size of Catfish you are attempting to catch. It puzzles me greatly why people experiment with exotic stink baits and other concoctions when the best tried and true method of catching Catfish, or any other fish for that matter, is to use their natural forage. It is not essential that the fish you use be live. If you use freshly killed fish or even freshly frozen and thawed fish you can have great success as well. In fact I like to use cut fish sometimes over live fish for one main reason. When you use cut fish there will be copious amounts of blood released into the water. This blood will act as chum to attract the Catfish to your area. Catfish are primarily scent feeders and will swim a great distance to investigate interesting odors that their keen senses are able to detect. As for your line, I advise using heavy line for big catfish. Twenty pound test strength minimum would be my suggestion. Tie the hook directly to the line. I would use a 2/0 hook which should be able to handle most big cats. Do not skimp on hook quality and make sure it is sharp. Use just enough weight to keep your offering on the bottom of your selected location. Make sure you have a stout rod to set the hook and you are ready to go.
