After you have caught a catfish, you should keep it refrigerated between 32 and 40 degrees F. You should thaw out the catfish in the refrigerator and not allow it to sit out to thaw. When you cook the catfish, it will start flaking when the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees F. Always wash the catfish before freezing or cooking. These are some things that people forget about after the catch. The fish must be handled properly before eating or freezing.

Nutritional Values

The nutritional value of catfish is something that people just don’t know or even know that the cat does have a nutritional value. The calories of one serving of catfish or 3 ounces are 146. There is 17 grams of protein in a 3 ounce serving of catfish. There is 8.7 grams of fat in a 3-ounce serving. The rest of the nutrition’s in a 3-ounce serving of catfish are in milligrams. There are no carbohydrates, 51mg sodium, 270mg potassium, 3.7mg niacin, 0.12mg riboflavin, 168mg phosphorus and 58mg cholesterol.

These figures however, are for raw fish and not for fish that are coated or added to a recipe to make a casserole. If you were to make a catfish filet without anything else, this would be your nutritional value. If you add breading and oil to deep fry the fish, you would need to adjust the cholesterol and calories.

However, you want to make sure that you get all the nutrients you need in a meal when eating fish every day.
