I WOULD LIKE TO BUY AN OLD CATFISH TELEPHONE. NOT TO USE TO FISH WITH BUT TO PUT IN MY TROPHY ROOM FOR DECORATION, ALONG WITH MAMMOTH TUSKS, MAMMOTH MOLARS, WALRUS TUSKS, ETC. OF WHICH I ALREADY HAVE. I GOT ALL THE OTHER STUFF FROM ALASKA. IS IT LEGAL TO EVEN OWN ONE/?????

hello, i have a really shallow half acre horse lake and some how over time catfish got into it (keep in mind there is no natural water except rain) and the deepest point in summer might be 5 ft but ive fished with chicken livers etc and i can see them circle the bait since its so shallow but no takers.. any suggestions or why this is happening would be appreciated

I just wanted to chime in here with my $0.02 on How Catfish Survive In Muddy Waters.

Catfish, even Channel Cats and Blue Cats love muddy water, they’re right at home in it(no pun intended).

There’s just something about muddy water that turns Catfish on, and it makes them bite like there’s no tomorrow.

The only changes I can see in how they behave during high/muddy water periods is they feed ferociously, and they’ll move in closer to the shore usually, I think because they’re trying to avoid the large rocks that get moved along the channel of a river during high water.

Also the bait fish that they feed on are doing the same thing and moving close to shore, so that’s where you’ll tend to find/catch them when the water is up and muddy.

As for muddy water affecting catfish in a negative way, I really can’t see any evidence of it, in fact they behave as if the opposite is true.

Don’t listen, the catfish’s pectoral spines are what cause the sting, not the whiskers. To avoid infection, I simply put ice on it and washed it out later

Doesn’t really matter if it’s dead or alive iv had good success using sheep head just fille them and hook them through twice never come off unless u do it yourself use 5 hooks and I use 50 pound test min. I use spider wire personally

yes there are definately blue cats in the illinois, i have caught several over the years, i live in peoria and fish the local area frequently, i assure you there are big blue cats

Hey Dan,

I caught a catfish a week ago and had the unfortunate experience of the hook going in his mouth and the tip coming out a few centimeters from his eye! How in the world is the best way to get it out and fast. My boyfriend and I got it out but I don’t think it was quick enough. I am not sure of the hook size. I don’t even know how the fish even did it!

these are the kinds of catfish baits. i use a flying grasshopper it was a big one i cought channel catfish of it and a few bass. i also use chicken liver its good to i cought all kinds of catfish with that. but crawldads i get good luck with that. i had never use shad but i here its realy good and chubs. the stink bait its good i here but i seem to never get nothing with it it keeps getting taken but ya try this out it might help you as much as it helps me
