Now, no catfishing trip into the waters of Oklahoma would be complete
if you neglected the river systems in this cat rich state.
The Cimarron River is a great place to fish. If you like fishing with
prepared or cut bait, you will probably see better catches of blue cat,
rather than channel catfish. If you want to catch flathead, try live
bait instead. Just get those hooks in there, because the water is rich!
Kiamichi River is another location in which you will enjoy ample
opportunity to pull Mr. Whiskers from the river. Don't forget the
Arkansas River either. Some of the best catfishing in the state of
Oklahoma comes straight from the waters of the Arkansas River.
If you fish from the so called secret locations, or hot spots, sich as
bayous, little coves, and oxbows, you will find large numbers of cats
intent on staying out of the river's current, and they are ripe for the
picking.
There is good access between Claremore and Catoosa off of Hwy 66. In
these locations, it is easy to catch blues from five to fifteen pounds,
and it is not unheard of to pull monsters from the water weighing in at
over fifty pounds. The flathead usually weigh in from fifteen to
thirty-five pounds.
