Catfish have a tendency of nibbling at the bait. If you try and set the hook when you first feel the nibble you will jerk the bait right out of his mouth. The more often you go catfish fishing the more experience you will have and the easier it will be for you to tell when it’s time to set the hook.
 
Don’t forget to bring along a net to help you bring that monster cat in. It would be almost impossible to pull him up with the rod and reel without some type of assistance. In fact, it may even still be a little hard pulling them in with the help of a net.
