Food for Thought (and catfish, too)

Dan. What is the best catfish baits for fishing for small ponds & lakes

The all-time best bait I have ever used for catfish has been cut shad. But, especially when fishing ponds and small lakes, it is inconvienient to carry shad everywhere, and it would have to be frozen, meaning you also need a cooler. The next best thing I have ever used is chicken livers, but again, it has to be kept cool, and it is very messy to use. Also, turtles love chicken livers as much as catfish do, so you may be making turtle soup instead of fried catfish for supper. So my bait of choice for catfishing most of the time is Danny Kings Punch Bait. There are other brands out there, and they probably all work to a more or lesser degree, but Danny Kings is the only one I have ever used. It works every time. All you have to do is drop a bare treble hook into it, push it into the dough with a stick, pull it out and toss it in the water. It stays on the hook great, and if there are any channel cats around, they will hit it.

Happy fishing.
