How do I make my own worm bed?

Category: Uncategorized

I prefer using worms for bait when I’m fishing for Catfish - can you tell me how to make my own wormbed?

The best method is to use a large plastic box or even a Styrofoam cooler. You’ll need a drain opening at one end covered by a small piece of screen so the worms don’t get out. Fill the box or cooler with peat moss mixed in with a little bit of dirt about 1/3 full. Add a heavy layer of maple leaves and then cover the leaves with cornmeal. Repeat the process starting and ending with the dirt mixture. Using a garden hose or pitcher of water, you’ll want to wet it all down without created mud. After letting this sit for a day or two, add the worms. When you’re ready to harvest, dig one end at a time removing only enough to last for a couple of days. Level out the area that you dug, fill with cornmeal and cover. Rotate the end that you take the worms out of each time you harvest. To keep the acid level down, you’ll want to sprinkle a little granular lime over the dirt about once a month. If you feed the worms a couple of times a week and keep the dirt moist, you can supply yourself and your buddies for years.
