is carlic salt your secret
Garlic salt is just one ingredient in a catfish bait recipe. Garlic is a strong smell dry or wet. Although there is not one special ingredient, it is the smell and stink that attracts the catfish. I guess one would have to say that most recipes do call for garlic. However, the garlic has to be added to some other ingredient such as chicken, liver and other meat waste. If you add the garlic to the meats to marinate them, you will make a stinky bait recipe. Garlic salt or garlic powder, which is better, will soak into the meats and nothing you do can make that smell go away. When you add it to water, the smell just forms a stream through the water attracting the catfish. I have used garlic for catfish bait and it does work well. There are so many recipes to make, but Ivory soap or garlic and meat will make the best baits for catching a catfish. What you do not want to do is marinate the meat in the garlic without adding the heat to the mixture. Hot garages or containers in direct sunlight will help marinate the garlic into the mixture. This is not something you want to smell until you are ready to use it. One jar of garlic is used for larger recipes that will last for a few trips to the lake. Only take enough bait or the entire bucket with the lid sealed tightly with you. Dip in and take what you need each time.
