A lot of catfish bait recipes call for chicken, beef, or pork blood. Where does one find animal blood for sale? My first guess would be a slaughterhouse (duh) but where does one find slaughterhouses in a given area? I tried Googling slaughterhouses in Cincinnati, but didn’t get very much. Any suggestions?

Personally, I have never seen a recipe that called for animal blood of any kind. I guess I like the easy recipes that give a great taste. I do have many recipes here that are great. If you are really dead set on using recipes with chicken, pork or beef blood, you could look in Hamilton County. There is a slaughterhouse there. I believe it is called Stehlin’s Meat Market. There are two more meat markets somewhere, but I was unable to locate them. The catfish recipes that call for animal blood must be something new. I have never seen a recipe asking for this type of ingredient. You must be using a recipe that came from other countries. I have been cooking catfish for many years with ingredients I have right in the kitchen. I am not sure what recipe you are using, but I would have to wonder what it would do to the taste of the catfish. It could be a good recipe, but it could be something that requires an accustomed taste. If you need a slaughterhouse closer than Hamilton County, you might be out of luck. Years ago, there were so many slaughterhouses that you could get anything. Today, they have thinned out. If you cannot find any blood for your recipes, please try some of the recipes I have listed. They are very tasty and easy to make. You will probably have everything you need right in the kitchen now or at the local store.
