Three secrets for catfish live in saltwater

Fishing for saltwater catfish can be exciting when you hook one of these monsters because reeling them in can be a challenge especially if you hook one of the larger ones. Nevertheless, you do need to have some patients when seeking out the catfish. Sometimes they are slow to respond and this is one species that won’t be rushed. When you do feel a bite, don’t get in a hurry to set the hook. You need to wait for a few seconds and give the catfish time to swallow the bait or you’ll jerk it right out of it’s mouth.

Another good thing about saltwater catfish fishing is that you don’t need any special gear. Any combination of rod and reel will do nicely provided they’re strong enough to handle the weight of the catfish without snapping into. Some of the larger catfish have been known to break the fishing line and even snap a few rods in half. They do have very tough mouths so it’s important to use sharp hooks or they won’t penetrate the skin. The circle hooks seem to work very well for this species. Be safe and have a great time reeling in those saltwater catfish!
