Time of day

what is the best time of day to catch the big ones? and have you ever used green nightcrawlers?

The best time of day to catch large Catfish, or any other size Catfish for that matter, is at night. The two to three hours time frame immediately after sundown is the absolute best time to fish for large Catfish. You can and will catch many catfish during the day, even mid day when the sun is high and water hot. The best time however is at night when the bugs hit the water and the night time food chain begins. Remember a Catfish is primarily dependant on its sonar capacity and its ability to smell. A catfish is attracted to a bait by these senses much more than its ability to actually see the bait. For the reason listed above using a green Nitecrawler really is not necessary. It will simply work the same as using a natural colored nitecrawler. Color really plays little or no impact in fishing for Catfish. Concentrate instead on night time fishing. If you want an edge try a chum bag. Buy or prepare a block of frozen ground up fish. They need to be ground into fine particles so they are released into the water on slow intervals. Their release into the water will do much more for your efforts than using a green nitecrawler will. Another thing you can do to help is shining a lie into the water. This will bring the food chain to your location. Lights attract bugs that fall into the water; this attracts small fish which in turn attracts large Catfish.
