What can you tell me about pond catfishing?

Pond catfishing can be as thrilling as open water catfishing, but some things are going to be different. How you fish the catfish and how you bait the cats is going to be slightly different. Then again, you have to know if the pond is being treated with any chemicals as well. Most people have a pond and allow it to sit without chemicals, but some have to keep the vegetation and other issues under control with chemicals. First, find out what the fish are feeding on while in the pond, and then find out what other fish are in the pond. The depth of the pond is another consideration. Then you have to know how you are going to fish for the cats. If it is a private pond, you want to know how many cats inhabit the pond and if anyone has ever caught a catfish from the pond. You can fish on ponds for hours and not get a bite if you do not find out the answers. If you find out what the other fish are and how the catfish are fed, then you can plan what bait you will use. Try to fish the area where the catfish hide. You can probably catch a cat from a pond during the day or otherwise try right before dark. One last point is to make sure you use a stainless steel hook. Sometimes the chemicals that are added to ponds will cause your best hook to rust if it is coated and not stainless steel.
