What factors will cause catfish (channels) to stop biting for days on end? we have always caught channels on this particular small lake for years, but this spring/summer they have not been hitting any bait ,anywhere on the lake. No others have been getting them to bite either. The weather has been normal for the area, warm days with a few rainey days now and again. But it has been 2 weeks since a channel was caught. We have tried several locations and every bait you could think of. PLEASE HELP !!!

The fact that you are fishing a lake that always netted you catfish has me wondering if there were any changes on the lake since last summer and fall. The keen sense of the catfish for smelling and tasting food far away has to make me wonder if they are alive in the water. Another thing could be that the underwater structure has changed and they moved somewhere you have not looked. Since you say that the catfish are not biting anywhere on the lake, I suspect there is something scaring the fish or something has taken over the lake. You have tried every bait there is, so I would think something else is wrong. Have you talked to other anglers and maybe even the DNR? There may be a problem in the lake. Another explanation could be that they are filling up on the baitfish. High populations of baitfish might have over taken the lake, which means the catfish has enough food. I would use a fish locator and scour the lake one day. I would find out were the schools are and if indeed there are catfish in the lake and where they are. There may a new area you did not fish yet. It is strange that no one is catching a catfish. I would have to ask if any fish are being caught on the lake. If not, that suggests attention that is more urgent. If they were, then I would search the lake with a fish locator.
