What is a Carolina Rig?

What is a Carolina Rig? Can you tell me how to set one up?

The Carolina Rig is one that fishermen have been using for years. It is most often the choice when a fisherman is trying to cover a large area in a minimal amount of time and is an excellent choice when you’re trying to determine just what type of structure you are fishing around. Typically, the Carolina rig has been used to fish structure in deep water but recently more and more anglers are using it in shallow water as well. I’ve actually seen it used successfully in as little as 1 or 2 feet of water with a shorter leader. A really good angler can use this rig to virtually pick apart the structure and it can provide the fisherman with a ton of information. The weight on the rig will send vibrations back that will tell you if you’re fishing on sand, mud, weeds or rocks. It’s an excellent rig to use to search bait until you find the fish you’re looking for. After you cast the rig, allow the bait to settle to the bottom slowly. Then drag it back towards you with a small lift of the rod tip to make it hop. It’s a great rig to use when you’re trying to catch bottom feeders like the Catfish.
