What tips for catfishing do you have?

I have five tips for catfishing. Bait, rod and reel, technique, location and time of day are all tips that you should know. The rod and reel should be durable enough to withstand the fight when you hook a catfish. You know that they going to fight you before you bring it into the boat. You should also be prepared to find the closest location to where the catfish frequent. The time of day should be the next consideration. Catfish are night predators and are more active. Yes, some will venture out for a bit of food during the day if it presents itself, but for the most part, they feed at night. I also recommend the vertical drop for fishing cats. You can cast out if you want, but if you know the location well enough, you can drop the bait to the bottom. If you are using stinky bait or fish heads, you are going to see them come to you. If you venture out at night, I suggest a buddy and a lantern. You do have to be careful when boating and fishing at night. Look at some of the bait recipes here on the site and you will find some great ones that will work just fine. You will want to make them ahead of time, but when you have the urge and the time to fish, it will be ready to go. Just remember to be quiet and wait out the fish. They will come to you if you have the right bait and rod so that you can handle the weight of the cat during the fight.
