What’s the best way to catch catfish in clear water?

Whether you are new to catfish fishing or an experience pro, there is difficulty in catching catfish in clear water.  Every experienced catfish angler knows that clear water fishing for catfish can be a trial and requires considerably more skill and care than fishing for catfish in darker water.  Catfish are normally bottom dwellers, and they love to hover partially submerged in mud. 

If the water is clear, catfish begin to rely heavily on sight to seek their food sources, and they no longer rely as heavily on scent.  For this reason, they may bite more readily if there is a little movement in your offerings.  Remember this when you drop in your line.

Catfish in clear water may tend to seek ever deeper shelter, and as a result, the deepest areas of a body of water are usually better fishing locations than depths that would normally yield a large number of catfish. Fishing in bright sunlight will not be as productive as fishing quite early in the mornings or later in the day.  Fishing on overcast days will be better than sunny days. 

If you seek your catch of clear water catfish in areas that offer shade, particularly deep shade, you will find more of the catfish there seeking shelter and darkness.  You should still fish the bottoms of the body of water.  Most avid catfish anglers believe it is best to fish for catfish without a bobber, and this is even more true in clear water.

The best way to learn to fish in Clearwater for catfish is through trial and error.  Experience is best.
