When and Where to Use Dip Bait?

hey dan cabin fever set before the ice ever hit, and in southern IN we dont get enough to ice fish, so i was wondering if dip bait works right after ice out? when and where are the best places to use dip baits too?

When and Where to Use Dip Bait? Most all anglers have heard about dip baits but there are many who have never tired it before. It’s mainly used to attract catfish because of the strong smell that gets their attention and draws them to your location.

Dip bait can be used in any type of water such as lakes, rivers and ponds. Use it when fishing around rocks, submerged trees, sudden drop-offs and other areas where this species may be located to draw the catfish out of its hiding place. One of the best times to use dip bait is right after an ice out. When the water starts to warm up and the ice begins to thaw the fish are very hungry and looking for a tasty meal. The smell from the dip bait will capture their attention and draw them in your direction where you’ll have the opportunity to hook one.

Fishing from late evening to around midnight or in the early morning with dip baits will usually yield excellent results. This is when the catfish are the most active so you’ll normally get more bites, which ultimately turns into more opportunities to snag a catfish.
