Where in Indiana can I find flathead catfish? Do I need special gear? What baits do they like best?

Flat head cat fish are very common in the White River. I read about some of the state records from Indiana a while back and seen that the White River produced the Indiana state record for flat head catfish at 79 pounds 8 oz back in the late sixties. I believe it was caught in Lawrence County. If you fish any tributaries of the White river you should be able to find the flat head catfish. As far as bait goes I have had very good luck with live bait such as blue gill and chad. Gold fish are another great bait fish for flat heads but you will want to check with your local game wardens or visit a DOW office to make sure gold fish are legal to use as bait fish in the area. The gear you will need will be the same gear and set up as you use for any other catfish.
