Hello Dan, I have recently gotten permition to fish an old paylake that hasnt been fished very much in the last 10 years. Theres loads of largemouths and quite a few bluegill from what I can tell. I have seen some huge catfish serfucing and swimming in the shallows. My family and I have fished here a couple of imes but no luck catching those monster cats I have been seeing. I have used garlic powder marinated chicken liver, nightcrawlers, red worms, chicken breast marinated in strawberry koolaid(family recipe for paylakes), and cheese. I have been trying anything I can think of but I have came up empty on cats. I was hoping for some advice as of why there not biting. I know theres monsters in there I saw one that looked to be 3-4 ft long and defonately a cat. Hope you can help dan. There are also a crazy amount of bed holes all over the shallows if that makes a difference.

Hello Dan; I’ve fished for catfish since i was knee high to a grasshopper, mainly in rivers, creeks, and Kaw Lake in northeastern Okla. I’ve had succsess with Flathead on worms and live perch shad don’t seem to stay alive on hook long enough.Bluecat and channel i’ve had great luck with worms and fresh shad right out of the lake. My wife Twlia is my lifelong fishing partner we have moved to Canadian Tx. because of work fishing is terrible up here we find ourselfes traveling alot, we both turned 50 years of age this year it;s time to fish Lake Texoma. I’m equiped with a boat 06 kenner 21vx 200hp center console, rods and reels for catfishing, i’ve never been to lake texoma all i need is a good starting point in the right direction. I know all of us good catfisherman don’t tell there good fishin holes to just anybody but i’ll try to make it worth your while. I fish day or night pending on how the cats are acting, i might be to late being late spring i don’t know how it is down there. If you can help us out it will be greatly appreciated. here’s the scoop, I got into catfishing a few years back caught alot of small channel cats 2-6 lbs. got addicted caught the bug. wanted to catch bigger and better. started using live and cut bait. started catching bigger flats and few channels. up graded tackle, bait feeder reels, bigger hooks, and so on. I’m fishing a river in michigan, muskegon river. my rig is almost always slip sinker rig sometimes 3way. my problem is I miss 90% of the hits I get on cut bait sometimes even on live bait. sometimes they hit so hard fish almost pull my rod in the water even with a bait feeder reel they go like bad outta hell, and I set the hook and nothing. At first I thought they where smaller fish so I down sized my bait. not the case. and there’s times I do hook them. i just can’t figure out whats with the grab and run. any idea’s on this. please help! oh and i noticed it only really happens in late summer when the waters the warmist.

What factors will cause catfish (channels) to stop biting for days on end? we have always caught channels on this particular small lake for years, but this spring/summer they have not been hitting any bait ,anywhere on the lake. No others have been getting them to bite either. The weather has been normal for the area, warm days with a few rainy days now and again. But it has been 2 weeks since a channel was caught. We have tried several locations and every bait you could think of. PLEASE HELP !!

Hi. We’re fishing in a stocked catfish pond in N.C. The pond in fished 5 days a week, and they sell live goldfish, saltines, and hornyhead bait there. This is what 98% of the people there use. I have tried liver, but it didn’t work very well. I would like to know if there is any better bait I could try? I am thinking since it is fished so often, and with the same live bait all the time that maybe something new might attract them. Would cut bait be a good choice?? If you were fishing this pond, how would you fish it, and what would you use? Thanks

My first guess would be a slaughterhouse (duh) but where does one find slaughterhouses in a given area? I tried Googling slaughterhouses in Cincinnati, but didn’t get very much. Any suggestions?
