After gutting the catfish you need to use the pliers and grab each fin
one at a time and cut them away from the catfish. Then cut through the
skin down the center of the back of the catfish. After making the cuts
take the pliers and pull the skin downward all the way to the tail of
the fish. Use the butcher knife to chop the tail and the head off the
catfish and throw them away.
After Cleaning
After you have cleaned the fish it's time to fillet the fish. You will
get the best results if you start at the tail and cut upward running
the knife along the backbone. Stop once you reach the rib area. Now you
need to start at the top of the ribs and go downward running the knife
along the ribs. Do this on both sides of the catfish. It is recommended
that you use non-slip rubber gloves to help prevent the knife from
slipping and always use sharp knifes. Using a dull knife can result in
accidents and it makes it harder to clean and fillet the fish.
You are now ready to cook and enjoy your meal. Cooking catfish is easy
and there are several different methods that you can use. You can bake,
boil, fry or grill the catfish depending on how you prefer your fish
cooked. However, you do need to be careful not to overcook the catfish
or it dries it out and ruins the taste. Now that you see how easy it
can be to clean a catfish, it's time to give it a try and see for
yourself how wonderful this fish actually does
taste.
